To Doppler or Not to Doppler?

Spring break = hallelujah!

Spring break also = extra time on my hands!

So that, of course means, even more time to research all things baby! My most recent google searches revolve around Doppler fetal heart rate monitors.

As with all things, I am torn. I am a Libra, so this is nothing new. On one hand, my weekly ultrasounds will stop soon and having the Doppler could give me some peace of mind between visits. On the other hand, if I have trouble using it, it could give me unnecessary stress. For centuries, women have [mentally] survived pregnancy without access to all of this technology. My own mother had two ultrasounds and nothing else when she was pregnant with me. If she could do it, so can I, right?

But still, that little Doppler is calling my name…

What are your thoughts, and if you bought one, which one did you get and would you recommend it?

  1. Get it! I can’t even fathom how I’d have gotten through the first couple trimesters without it. I still use it now here and there. Yeah it is hard to find the heartbeat at first, but just takes some practice. I made sure I did it for the first time after my ultrasound appointment. That way if I couldn’t find it then I wouldn’t freak out! It is incredibly reassuring to hear that little heart thumping away before you can feel any movement. You can find them on ebay for like $50. I got the sonoline B and it is really easy to use and displays the heartbeat count for you. Worth every penny! And it is fun to share the heartbeat with family members too 🙂

  2. I bought the Sonoline B and I’m happy I did. I do get a bit nervous about using it too often, but I figure every couple of days for just a minute or two is fine. I was also used to the weekly ultrasounds, and it’s a rude awakening when you have to wait two or three weeks between visits! It definitely helps ease my mind and stress. I recommend it!

  3. I love my doppler. I’ve used it since week 10 and will continue until their here. I love the sound of their heartbeats! I bought one on eBay that has an external speaker and separate want with a digital screen for heart rate display. I like it a lot.. I used to have an angelsounds one and loved that one too, but it was too big.

  4. Do it! Seriously, you won’t regret that you did. I got the sonoline B Doppler at the start of my pregnancy and it has been a life saver. I used it very regularly up until the point I could feel baby move, and it was such a stress reliever! I have nothing but good praise for it!
